ABOUT

Madeline Swenson is a Baltimore-based clarinetist, arts administrator, and educator who is passionate about recognizing the effort required to bring artistic visions to life in the orchestral world. She uses her experiences working for a major orchestra to inform her approach to clarinet performing and teaching.

Madeline has previously performed with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Symphonic Winds, and Dakota Valley Symphony Orchestra. During her studies at the University of Minnesota, Madeline regularly performed with the University Symphony Orchestra, University Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. She also served as Assistant Conductor and Manager of the University’s non-music major bands for three semesters. 

Madeline has participated in masterclasses with Ron Selka, YaoGuang Zhai, Andy Hudson, Jose-Franch Ballester, Gabriel Campos-Zamora, and Charles Messersmith. She has previously attended the Minnesota Clarinet Academy and the Wintergreen Music Festival LEAD Cooperative.

Most recently, Madeline served as Operations Assistant for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, where she was responsible for maintaining the orchestra’s scheduling and administrative software, coordinating production logistics for the orchestra’s 87-concert season, and assisting in planning for future seasons. She has previously held administrative roles with Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and University of Minnesota Twin Cities Bands.

Madeline is currently pursuing her M.M. in Clarinet Performance at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Alexander Fiterstein. She received her B.M. in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she studied with Sang Yoon Kim and Jennifer Gerth.
